PERSONAL
Let's whip that brand into shape!

This month’s theme is branding, and today we’re diving into a question I’ve been asked multiple times recently:
What’s the difference between a personal brand and a property brand? Do I need one, the other, or both?
Let’s break it down.
The short-term rental space is shifting.
With platform changes, rising service fees, and more investors moving from single-family STRs into boutique hotels and micro-resorts, many owners are asking:
The answer isn’t either/or.
But first, we need clarity.
A personal brand is trust-driven.
It’s how you differentiate yourself from someone else who technically does the same thing you do.
When I first learned about personal branding, I was a wedding photographer. Every photographer:
So what made one photographer worth $10,000+ per wedding?
Personality. Values. Trust.
People didn’t just hire skill — they hired connection.
That’s personal branding.
It’s when someone meets you in person and says:
“Wow, you’re exactly how you are online.”
That alignment builds long-term equity.
If you’re moving toward:
A personal brand becomes powerful.
Because when investors or operators already know you:
That shortens the sales cycle dramatically.
Your personal brand is not about bookings.
It’s about belief.
This is where most people get stuck.
You don’t just post random life updates.
Instead, look at the phases of your life and identify:
For example, my background in English and education might seem unrelated to STR branding — but it shaped my ability to:
Those experiences build authority.
Your story is credibility — if you know how to frame it.
A property brand is conversion-driven.
Its goal is simple:
Drive reservations. Increase revenue.
While a personal brand builds trust in you,
a property brand builds trust in the experience.
It’s guest-facing.
It should evoke emotion so clearly that when someone arrives, they think:
“This feels exactly like I imagined.”
That’s strong brand alignment.
Here’s the simplest way to think about it:
| Personal Brand | Property Brand |
|---|---|
| Relationship-driven | Revenue-driven |
| Trust in the person | Trust in the experience |
| Evolves over time | Location-based & fixed |
| Built around values | Built around amenities & design |
This is important.
A personal brand is malleable.
You can pivot industries, messaging, or focus — and your audience can pivot with you because they trust you.
A property brand? Not so much.
The house stays where it is.
The national park doesn’t move.
The coffee shop down the street stays the coffee shop.
Property brands are inherently less flexible.
That’s why long-term investors often benefit from building both.
Yes.
But you need structure.
If you half-build six brands, none of them will work.
Both require:
Without consistency, you lose trust.
Without trust, you lose bookings — or influence.
They shouldn’t feel interchangeable.
They should feel complementary.
You can share:
But collaborate those posts with your personal account.
You can reference:
And collaborate back to the property page.
This creates:
One ecosystem.
Two distinct purposes.
Personal = trust.
Property = bookings.
Property Brand Handle:
Should ideally reflect the property name.
Example:@StayAtElysian
Personal Brand Handle:
Should reflect your name or brand identity.
Example:@AllieHaney or @BrandedMarketCo
Then create two separate content plans:
Your properties become supporting evidence, not the entire identity.
Ask yourself:
If you’re building legacy, a personal brand matters.
If you’re focused purely on bookings, a property brand is essential.
If you’re serious about growth, you likely need both.
You don’t have to choose.
But you do have to be intentional.
A personal brand builds trust.
A property brand drives revenue.
Together, they create a powerful hospitality ecosystem.
If you’re unsure where to start, whether you need one, the other, or both, I’d love to help. I work with both personal and property brands to create clear content strategies that actually move the needle.
Until next time —
Build your personal brand.
Build your property brand.
Make the bookings.
Earn the trust.
Here’s to being the best in your brand and your market.
