Let's whip that brand into shape!

When most short-term rental owners think about branding, they focus on the things guests see before they book: the logo, the listing photos, the website, or maybe even the Instagram feed.
And while those things absolutely matter, your brand shouldn’t stop once a guest clicks “Reserve.”
The guest experience is where your brand truly comes to life.
Every detail inside your property tells a story. The question is: are you telling your story intentionally?
If you want guests to remember your property, recommend it to friends, and book with you again, here are five simple ways to weave your brand into the experience from the moment they arrive.
Think about the first few seconds after your guests arrive.
They’ve finally made it to your property after hours of traveling. They’re carrying luggage, juggling door codes, and looking down as they step through the front door.
What are they looking at?
Your welcome mat.
Instead of using a generic mat that says “Welcome Friends,” consider creating a custom one featuring your property’s logo. It’s a small detail, but it’s one of those subtle touches that instantly makes your property feel polished and intentional.
We have custom logo mats at each of our properties, and they’re one of my favorite branding details.
For Elysian, we even chose a navy-colored mat instead of the traditional brown coir mat. It’s understated, but it feels custom—and those little moments add up.
When guests notice details like this, they’re already beginning to trust that you’ve thought through the rest of their stay, too.
After guests settle into their rooms, where do they usually end up?
The kitchen.
Whether they’re unpacking groceries or making their first cup of coffee, they’re interacting with your space almost immediately.
Branded coffee mugs are one of my favorite ways to reinforce a property’s identity.
One of our branding clients recently created mugs in one of their brand colors with their logo printed in a complementary color. They look incredible, and they feel like something you’d actually want to take home.
In fact, they’re selling the same mugs on their website as merchandise.
That’s not only another stream of revenue—it gives guests a way to take a piece of their experience home with them.
A simple QR code near the coffee station can link directly to your online shop, making it easy for guests to purchase their own instead of asking where they can find one…or accidentally packing yours in their suitcase.
One of the first things guests look for after arriving is your guidebook.
They want to know how to adjust the thermostat, where to find the Wi-Fi password, how to use the fire pit, or where you recommend they grab dinner.
Instead of handing them a generic binder, create a guidebook that looks and feels like an extension of your brand.
Use your logo.
Use your fonts.
Use your colors.
Everything should feel consistent with what they saw when they booked your property online.
Consistency builds confidence.
It reinforces that they’re staying with a professional operator—not someone who threw a few pages into a plastic binder the night before.
While you’re at it, don’t forget the guest book.
A thoughtfully branded guest book becomes more than just a place for signatures. It becomes a keepsake full of stories, memories, and recommendations from past guests.
For our Kentucky property, Commonwealth, I love the idea of using a leather guest book with our embossed logo on the cover. Over the years, those books become part of the property’s story, and that’s something you simply can’t recreate digitally.
Your branding doesn’t have to stay inside your rental.
One of the easiest ways to extend your reach is by offering a simple souvenir guests can take with them.
It doesn’t have to be expensive.
A postcard.
A sticker.
A branded bookmark.
Even something as simple as a thoughtfully designed keepsake card can spark conversations long after guests head home.
Imagine someone putting your sticker on their water bottle or laptop.
Or mailing a postcard to a friend from their vacation.
Every one of those moments introduces your property to someone new.
Your cleaning team can easily replenish these items during turnovers, making them a simple addition to your guest experience without creating extra work for you.
If you’ve listened to the podcast for any length of time, you know I’m a big believer in creating experiences guests naturally want to share.
Give them a reason to pull out their phones.
Maybe it’s your property’s unique architecture.
Maybe it’s a beautiful mural.
Maybe it’s a custom swing, a vintage neon sign, or an incredible view.
Whatever fits your brand, create a designated photo moment that guests can’t resist.
Not only does this make their stay more memorable, but every photo they share becomes free marketing for your business.
It’s authentic.
It’s organic.
And it’s far more powerful than any ad you could pay for.
One of my favorite examples is working with a mural artist who specializes in short-term rentals. She creates custom murals designed specifically for vacation properties, giving guests a one-of-a-kind backdrop while bringing the property’s story to life.
That’s branding people actually interact with.
The best short-term rental brands don’t stop at beautiful listing photos.
They continue telling their story from the moment guests pull into the driveway until long after they’ve returned home.
Small details create lasting impressions.
A welcome mat, a coffee mug, a guidebook, a postcard, a mural.
Individually, they may seem small. Together, they create a guest experience that feels cohesive, memorable, and unmistakably yours.
If you want guests to remember your property, recommend it to friends, and become repeat visitors, start thinking beyond your listing and begin designing every touchpoint with intention.
