It’s a funny story how Joan and I found each other. Back when we lived in North Carolina, I was friends with her sister-in-law…before she was her sister-in-law! Joan is a twin, and Courtney, my friend, married her twin brother, Jake. Jake and Courtney got married in October 2018, right when I was due with Huxley, so unfortunately, I couldn’t photograph their wedding. But I am so lucky to still be able to work with their families on yet another beautiful wedding day to add Brad to their family!

Joan is in the Navy as a nurse and has moved all across the country. Come the fall, they will be moving back to the west coast to continue her duty! Before the move, however, Joan and Brad wanted to get married on the east coast where they met and their love story began.

Their engagement session was the coldest session I have ever shot…but you would never know it by how cozy these two look together! It was 28 degrees and the wind was whipping! I think Lincoln must stay pretty cold up there in the winter because the pillars really serve well as wind tunnels. Their session took place shortly after a winter storm and there was still snow gracing the ground and the monument. It made for an absolutely gorgeous sunrise!

These two are no strangers to precipitation or the cold on monumental (see what I did there?) days in their lives, however. The day Brad proposed it was raining and 35 degrees. But according to Joan, their engagement at The Wharf couldn’t have been more perfect.

Their September wedding is sure to be a special one as their families gather on the east coast to celebrate the sweet couple, so in love!
