let's whip that brand into shape
After shooting Katelyn and Josh’s engagement session and learning more about their adventurous spirits, I truly couldn’t wait to document their wedding and meet the families from which they came! No surprise—the Lewises and the Newmans did not disappoint! What a celebration their wedding was!
Now, when I say these two are adventurous this is what I mean: Josh has bought and sold multiple small businesses; Katelyn is a journalist (like one of those big, fancy DC journalists) by trade; before COVID hit; they were planning a six-month Asian/western European honeymoon (because they’ve already hiked Kilimanjaro and visited France and Portugal); but when COVID hit, they decided to flip a house and start a new business! I mean, c’mon, can you get any more adventurous than that?!
Although their wedding was postponed from the spring, they maintained their beautiful color palette of gray for the guys and pastel pinks, dusty blues, and touches of peach and sage green. Seriously my dream palette! Their florist, Willow Branch Flowers, truly outdid themselves.
When I first arrived and said hello to Josh, his excitement was palpable. He was bouncing up and down on the balls of his feet, telling me how he couldn’t wait to marry Katelyn and was so excited the time was finally here. Although more reserved, Katelyn was equally excited that their day had finally come, four months after their originally scheduled wedding day.
At 37+ weeks pregnant, I was a little nervous going into the day because with Virginia weather…it could have been 90 with humidity or it could have been 70 with a breeze. We were blessed with the latter! As Katelyn and Josh read their personal vows to one another (which is one of my favorite things ever!), a light breeze blew over all of their guests as they overlooked the Blue Ridge Mountains that their venue, The Barn at Turkey Ridge, beautifully boasted. Recounting their adventures together, they each dubbed the other as their life adventure partner, and it melted my heart.
After their ceremony, Katelyn and Josh danced their first dance as a married couple to “You & Me” by Dave Matthews—fitting as they were getting married in Charlottesville! They reminded me of me and Caleb swing dancing out on that dance floor!! After that, we enjoyed some beautiful toasts with many inside jokes, but even more love! The toasts were followed by a beautiful testimony and a blessing for the food from Josh’s father.
The night was beautiful, complete with pig noses and pig cake toppers, dancing, drinks, and celebrations for all! We even got Grammie June out on the dance floor by the end of the night!
Thank you to Katelyn, Josh, and your families for including me in such a celebration of love!
