When I started my business, I had no idea what I was in for. Someone told me I had a good eye for composition (didn’t know what that meant) and I had always loved finding stories to document, whether it was visually or in writing. So when I had my quarter-life crisis that was spawned from the feeling of dread I felt everyday driving to my classroom, I thought to myself…what if I started my own photography business? An idea that seemed so foreign and scary and huge.

Then I just…started. Started researching, building, organizing, photographing, asking. And here I am, two years later, still researching, building, organizing, photographing, and asking. Sometimes being an entrepreneur can feel isolating. I am at home with Huxley all day and while running your own business may seem glamorous from the outside, it isn’t always!

My mind on a daily basis: “I should update my website. Client gallery needs to go out by Friday so I can prepare for next wedding. They haven’t responded to the initial inquiry email, so I need to email them again. I wonder if I can write ‘x’ off. Should I be doing ‘x’? They’re doing ‘x’. I should probably be doing ‘x’. Marketing attempts. Social media updates.  Editing. Email. REPEAT.”

All of this to say—when we find other people that are experiencing the same struggles as us, it is comforting. So when my good friend and fellow photographer, Hana (Weddings by Hana), invited me to the Boss Babes of DC event, I was super excited to meet other women who knew the struggle!

We celebrated together over fruity drinks, while meeting new women in our area that are also entrepreneurs! Wedding photographers and planners and stationers, the founder of Boite de Luxe, the founder of Sequin & Sand, business coaches, and many others were in attendance! I was thankful to be among these talented ladies and enjoyed all the photo opportunities.
