I’m not sure how you just know that a couple belongs together, but you just do with Jess and Shannon. When Shannon initially contacted me she told me they had a series of first dates that included watching the movie “Sausage Party” and they got engaged on a month-long trip to New Zealand. If that isn’t the perfect combination of comfort and adventure, I don’t know what is!

Their session was so much fun and they are just the perfectly laid back couple that I enjoy photographing! Beau, their rescue dog, came along for the ride and was a perfect companion throughout the session. We explored downtown Occoquan, which is the most quaint little town that has the perfect balance of city and nature. The Potomac was serene at 6:00 in the morning when we did our sunrise session! I had heard rumors about Rockledge Mansion, which is located right next to the parking lot where we met, being haunted…and I will admit that I sat staring at the house waiting for something eerie to happen. And I kid you not, a street lamp turned on and off, like, three times while I was waiting for Jess and Shannon to arrive! Alas, we all survived, and to the best of my knowledge, none of us are haunted.

We even found one of those quintessential LOVE signs that you find all around Virginia (because, you know, Virginia is for Lovers). Of course we had to snap a picture there! After taking in all the nature, we made our way to town where we walked down the [one] main street of Occoquan and eventually landed at the cutest little coffee shop called Grind’n’Crepe. If you’re ever looking for some good coffee and even better crepes, this is your place!
