BRANDING
I'm Ali Rae and I love building brands.
So let's build that business one blog post at a time.

let's whip that brand into shape
Thanks so much for your continued support. My business and brand has seen many chapters, and while this was one of them, please consider joining me in the current chapter. I am now a brand developer/photographer and fractional CMO for fellow small business owners. If you’d like to follow along, you can sign up for my email list here!
These two right here…they went through just about everything a couple could go through leading up to their engagement session! We were supposed to be shooting their engagement session in April, but of course, due to COVID-19, that didn’t happen. We rescheduled for after June 10th when Virginia opened back up. Once we got all of our schedules aligned, the venue where we were supposed to shoot cancelled on us last minute (I mean, like lasttttt minute…Katlin already had her hair and makeup done!). So we were forced to reschedule the reschedule. As I was driving to Historic Tuckahoe, people were driving 45 mph on 95…that’s how bad of a downpour it was. I sat in my car watching the radar, praying it would clear…and it DID! The rain stopped, clouds parted, and the sun really showed up for us!
We had their engagement session at Historic Tuckahoe. I had never visited Thomas Jefferson’s childhood home before, but it is gorgeous. The property and main home overlooks the James River; there are multiple garden areas to shoot in; not to mention open fields and beautiful tree-lined driveways. Everywhere I turned I saw another little vignette I wanted to photograph them in.
Katlin really wanted a willow tree. She says she has always loved them…and lo and behold, Tuckahoe also had a couple willows that we were able to include in their session. Towards the end of their session, we almost skipped the wide open field, but I am so thankful that we didn’t. The best light of the entire day was there in that field just waiting for us. Katlin’s blue dress brought our her beautiful eyes and contrasted with the golden light so well.
Chris was such a great sport as I kept finding new places to photograph them…it always goes something like this: “Okay, we are almost done. There’s just one more spot I want to take you guys then we will wrap up.” Except that’s said about…six times. Just ask Chris!
I always encourage my couples to turn their engagement sessions into a date night. I mean, your hair and makeup are done, you’re both in nice outfits—you might as well make the most of it, right?! And they did just that! They embraced the happy end to a chaotic start of their engagement session and enjoyed sushi after their well-deserved, beautiful engagement session!
Katlin and Chris, I can’t wait until October for your wedding day!
Let's talk business.
