What a breathtakingly beautiful day Katlin and Chris had to celebrate their wedding! It was a perfect fall October day—70 degrees with a soft breeze as the sun peeked in and out of clouds to give us beautiful light all day (so basically a photographer’s dream!). They got married on a family friend’s private residence that has a beautiful farmhouse, courtyard area, pond, and multiple beautifully landscaped areas for portraits. Private residence weddings are becoming more common and I am here for it! It truly allows the couple to have unique, one-of-a-kind images for their wedding memories.

When I first spoke with Katlin during her consultation, she mentioned how important details were to her on her wedding day. She spent time curating what she wanted to be with her on her wedding day, and that was clear when I showed up on their wedding day. The sentimental aspects of handkerchiefs for her mother and father and the photo of her grandfather in his military uniform are the two main items that stick out in my mind. She made it a priority to take a photo while holding his photo, which makes my heart melt.

Katlin and her father did a first look, and it was so heartfelt. I’ve said this before, but father/daughter first looks and father/daughter dances just hit differently now that I am a mother. I picture Caleb giving Huxley away on her wedding day and it makes me tear up behind the camera almost every single time now! She and Chris decided not to share a first look, but they did share a first touch while being prayed over from their pastor. It was such a sweet and peaceful moment amidst a fast-paced day.

Multiple times Katlin said, “I just want to marry Chris,” and that she did! They said their vows on a beautiful dock in the middle of the pond with their closest friends and family standing by their sides. When couples write their own vows, it makes my heart so happy! Hearing their personal experiences that brought them together and helped them know that the other was “the one” is so refreshing and heartfelt. Katlin and Chris did this, and a few happy tears were shed!

Once they were pronounced husband and wife, they proceeded to the party at their reception. It was clear their families loved one another and that they knew how to celebrate! Chris and his mother had a non-traditional father/son dance. It started out with a sweet rendition of “You Are My Sunshine,” but quickly changed to “SHOTS!” where they pulled out airplane bottles of Jaegermeister and took shots with one another before jumping and dancing around the dance floor! I love the spunk and unique dance!!

We ended the night with a little rain, but that couldn’t dampen Katlin and Chris’s love…or the sparklers! We captured a sparkler exit before leaving them to party the night away as husband and wife!
